I run Uni on mine. Seems to be pretty good so far. As for cleaning, i still like the foam ones. I use to run K&N filters in my sport quad with an outerwears over that.

What kind of filter comes on the '06 Outty? My '04 has a foam (sponge) style that I just clean out with simple green and re-oil a little after a ride or so.
Is your stock one just a paper element?

Wonder why both my '04s came stock with a foam filter and then by '06 stock is paper filter....Maybe another cost savings, just like moving production to Mex-he-co

Uni makes a foam filter for the outlander you can get at any can am dealer. Its a can am part number I think. It works great and is reusable.

We have 2 '07 400XT bought 1 year apart, but had different air filters in the. the first had a paper filter that has been replaced with a K&N, the second had a foam filter. So who knows the reason.

I was thinking of going with Uni (or equivalent) foam filters in my fleet. The Hondas came with foam - although they're pretty beat. The Popos have paper and I was looking at changing over to foam there as well.
I was also thinking of Outerwears, although they look to be specifically designed for K&Ns.
