Well, I am working on the outlander to fix the bumper after the slight mishap a couple of weeks on the Missaukee trails. anyway, I have disconnected the head lights and removed the front plastic to get to the bumper. Today, I tried to start the quad and move it outside without the front plastic on and the headlights disconnected and did not get any power when I turned on the key. Does Can-am have a safety mechanism on the quad that will prevent it from getting any power if the headlights are not connected? I am going to try and start the quad later this week after everything dries out from cleaning it today. I was just wondering if someone knew what may have happened.
Thanks,

It ran prior to taking everything off of it so I could get to the bumper. In fact, I even was using the winch so I could extend the cable out a little in order to get the fairlead off. I needed to get access to that bumper because the one side needs to be welded back on. Like I said, I am going to temporarily hook it up this week and try it again. I just did not want to do that today because everything was wet on it when I put it back in the barn. I checked the manual but I did not see anything that would even suggest that. MMMMMMM... is right.

I would say No, that the head light would not cause that type of issue, what I would say is after washing it would/could cause something a long thoes lines.
I would check the voltage at the battery then follow it to the starter.
Is everthing dead, or do you have power to the instruments? Does anything power up?
If not then look for the Solenoid, check power on both sides, input side from the battery and out side to the starter and the rest of the machine, aslo once you trun the key to on the other wire to the solennoid should either go to ground or go to hot deppening on the machine.
best I can do from here....
post any more info if you can't get it ....

Well, I think I found the issue I was having with my quad. The reason there was no power to anything was a result of me leaving the key on while running the winch cable out to get the front end off. I hooked up the battery charger last night after work. After a couple of hours, I tried starting it and it fired right up. Thank goodness it was not anything more serious. I guess I will have to remember shut the key off...
Thank you all for you help. Hopefully I can get that thing back in shape and on the trails soon.

I would have to say that the word "rookie" does not even come close to describe my ability to work on anything with a motor and wheels (car, truck, quad, tractor, lawnmower, etc.). However, with that being said, I am trying to take learn some things on my own and see if I can figure some things out to become more experienced. If something were to happen to my machine on the trail, I would not even have the first clue on how to fix it. So, from time to time, I may make some really dumb errors like this last one...
Tim - I would not want to be left in the lower in May. I would be very bummed.

Happens to the best of us, kinda like reaching for one of the hoses, turning your head and grabbing the head pipe instead. Yeah, it was hot.

Mistakes/errors are great. I tend to learn more when I screw something up. Just so long as they don't compound. Then normally I gotta pay someone to fix my stupid mistake.
