Well, here I go again with my crazy questions on ATV maintenance.
This weekend, I cleaned the foam air filter using the proper cleaner and let it dry completely. Just now, I sprayed the foam filter with a generous amount of oil as directed and put the machine back together. However, now the quad will not start. Any ideas on why the quad will not start? Is there anyway you can use too much of the spray oil on the filter? Does it usually take a while to get it going after cleaning the filter? I basically just tried starting it for the last 30 minutes. I did get it to turn run a couple of times but I could not keep it going. It would quit after a few seconds.
I am no professional at ATV maintenance. Any help would be appreciated. I need to get this machine going ASAP. Thanks.

SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU MAY HAVE APPLIED WAY TO MUCH OIL. GET A SHOP RAG, AND DAB THE FILTER OR EVEN A COUPLE OF PAPER TOWELS. DID THE OUTTY COME WITH A FOAM FILTER??? DOES THE FILTER COME AWAY FROM THE CAGE IT IS HOUSE AROUND? IF SO WRING IT OUT. BETTER YET, CLEAN THAT ONE AND GO BUY YOURSELF ANOTHER ONE AND KEEP IT AS A SPARE

Ok. I will try and see if I can use some paper towels and try and soak some of the oil from the foam filter. Maybe that is what my problem is. Yes, the quad came with a foam filter. I have to pick up a quart of oil to bring with me. I will try and get a new filter as well just to make sure I have a spare. This darn maintenance is going to kill me. We are within 10 days of this trip and now I cannot get the quad going again. ARGHHHH!!!!!!

IF YOU DO GET A NEW ONE, GET A UNI FILTER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT...AFTERMARKET. ALSO, THEY COME PRE-LUBED TOO.

Hey Buck... sounds like you applied the " too much of a good thing principle " (I know it well !). These machines are very sensitive to air volume and don't take kindly to restricted flow. I'm hope'n you you were a tad generous on the oil application eliminating the air going through it. From my understanding a "light dusting" of oil on the outside of the filter keeps dust there and eases cleaning the next time. Keep your stick on the ice... we're all in this together!

Well, I just came back in the house. I took it all apart again and I am working on cleaning the filter out again. It is soaking in water right now and I will be back outside in a few to rinse her off and let her dry again. I am planning to head to the store to get a new one just in case this does not work.
I am sure I was way to generous on the oil. I tried squeezing out most of the oil and try to start it again. Unfortunately, it did not work. After this little experience, I am going to need some more of the cleaner and oil as well. I will keep you all posted and hopefully it will be back running here in a couple of days. I got the new tires on it and I have not even been able to tool around the yard on them.

Buck,
Pretty much this same thing happened to me when I did the Grizzly. I oiled the filter and threw it right on. The darn thing would not start! To eliminate the questions i took the filter back off and started the quad with no issue. Thus too much oil! I was able to just let the filter dry for a bit...basically sat it on the bench for a couple hours on a shop rag. Put it back on and all was good. Pretty simple fix. There are benefits to the aftermarket dry filters with a good pre-filter. Saves the head aches. Good and bad to both. Isn't it fun doing your own maintenance!

something else to check now is the spark plug you may have fouled it.

Once again, you guys have helped a fellow ATV'er in need. I was able to get my quad going last night. Scott thanks for the tip on the fouled spark plug. The plug was a mess when I pulled it out. I put in a new one and it fired right up even before putting the air filter back on. Now the air filter is back on and the entire machine is put back together. I feel much better now.
However, before working on the quad last night, I had car problems with my Jetta. I am suspecting the battery has one or more blown cells. Nothing happens when I turn the key other then this clicking noise. I am going to investigate that today and see if new battery is the problem. I am not having much luck these days with motorized transportation. Hopefully, my luck will begin to change.
