Their comment was that you may ride on designated ORV trails during the season. They made it clear that you must stay on the designated ORV trail and not go off trail into hunting areas.
it is not legal to ride on any ORV trail during rifle season ( nov 15 till 30th ) - except between the times of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm .... thats it !!!
even between that time its awful ballzy to say the least !!!

This afternoon I happened to see my neighbor that is a conservation officer. I inquired further from him more information regarding ORV operations during the November firearm deer season. His comments were: ORV operation is allowed on designated ORV trails during the November firearm deer season with no special times limitations. ORV operation is not allowed off designated ORV trails at any time. ORV operation is not allowed in state game areas, so if the ORV trail is in a state game area, then the signs at the staging area should be checked prior to riding in those areas regarding trail closure. He referred me to the “Michigan’s Off Road Vehicle Guide” and here is the link: www.michigan.gov/documents/ORVguide_95964_7.pdfOn pages, 18 & 19 the operation during firearm season is stated clearly. – ORV operation is not permitted in “Public Hunting Areas.” It does not say anything about ORV trails being closed during the November firearm season. I will do some further checking and post if I find more information that is pertinent.

Firearm deer season is 15days long, I feel, for a number of reasons, that unless one is using his/her ORV to remove a dead deer from the woods or traveling to/from a hunting blind we should as ORV trail riders stay the heck out of the woods and give the deer hunters there 15 days. Now having said that I would never put my self or my wife in a position to be trail riding when over 1 million people with guns are in the north woods deer hunting, I would think I could find a better time to ride then these 15 days.
If this is some type of an argument weather you can or can’t ride, you win have at it. I for one park the machines in the shed and will take them out until Dec. I could care less if can the question is why would I.
It’s the same for me and when the snow machine season hits it peak, oh I can ride my ORV but why the hell would I, the snow machine season is at best anymore only 3 months long, I think I can wait 3 snowy trails, bad roads, cold day wroth of time before spring when I have almost 9 months worth of riding to look forward to. I, for one, like to share the trails with other users, to head out knowing that there will be conflict to me and only me same very foolish. Thank you for letting me add my 2 cents worth, but please think these things over we all need to become better neighbors of the out doors.
This is not a debate for me, this is my view and mine only, last post on this matter for me.
Good Luck.

May be you should ask your neighbor where the trail is that is not on land open to the public for hunting, as all trails that I know of are on land open to hunting. Its just not a good idea to ride from Nov. 15-30, unless its well after dark.

Hopefully this is the last comment I will make on this subject. After talking with two separate officers regarding this issue I still felt there was some level of vagueness to deal with, so this morning I called the Cadillac Service Center and talked to the law enforcement person there. I got a completely different answer which was “No Riding During The Posted Hours” and when I asked about the forest roads, I was told this rule applied. Now I have several answers from DNR officials and they do not match. I decided to call the law department in Lansing, as I can be quite anal about these issues. The person I talked to was very helpful and offered to send the statute to me. Now I firmly believe I have the correct answer, at least for the time being, as the person in law enforcement was going to talk to the counterparts in the various trails sections and make sure there was not some other pertinent information. This person will be getting back to me if there is further information. So for now at least, park the ORV during the stated hours. Here is the paragraph from the law that covers the riding during deer season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 324.81133 Operation of ORV; prohibited acts. Sec. 81133. A person shall not operate an ORV: (j) In an area on which public hunting is permitted during the regular November firearm deer season from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., except during an emergency or for law enforcement purposes, to go to and from a permanent residence or a hunting camp otherwise inaccessible by a conventional wheeled vehicle, to remove from public land a deer, elk, or bear that has been taken under a valid license; except for the conduct of necessary work functions involving land and timber survey, communication and transmission line patrol, and timber harvest operations; or except on property owned or under control of the operator or on which the operator is an invited guest. A hunter removing game under this subdivision may leave the designated trail or forest road only to retrieve the game and shall not exceed 5 miles per hour. A vehicle registered under the code is exempt from this subdivision while operating on a public highway or public or private road capable of sustaining automobile traffic. A person holding a valid permit to hunt from a standing vehicle issued under part 401, or a person with disabilities using an ORV to access public lands for purposes of hunting or fishing through use of a designated trail or forest road, is exempt from this subdivision. A person holding a valid permit to hunt from a standing vehicle issued under part 401, or a person with disabilities using an ORV to access public lands for purposes of hunting or fishing, may display a flag, the color of which the department shall determine, to identify himself or herself as a person with disabilities or a person holding a permit to hunt from a standing vehicle under part 401.

I spoke with a Conservation Officer this morning; I asked him if riding on a designated ORV trail was legal during gun deer season. He was with his sergeant and they discussed this issue. Their comment was that you may ride on designated ORV trails during the season. They made it clear that you must stay on the designated ORV trail and not go off trail into hunting areas. After obtaining this information I will be going for a ride soon, likely on the trails going out of Manton (north of Cadillac). I would be VERY careful with this. WHY? Some of our ORV trails travel thru public hunting area's, and if they do, than the Novemember Firearm Deerifle ORV time restrictions DO apply.. If the ORV trailhead does not go thru a public hunting area, than your OK to operate on it without regard to hunting time restrictions . Myself? I agree with most of you guys in here. Give the hunters their 15 days and just stay OFF the trails during this time. I dont like the idea of knowing that I might get hit with someones stray bullit.

I agree. If it were up to me, those two weeks would be closed to Recreational trail riding.
