Plowed all winter long with the yellow machine (Polaris Sp500 2004) did a great job with all the snow but now it seem I’m smell gas and it’s bad. It appears to be coming in the form of exhaust, it seems black and as I said smells bad.
The last long ride we were on was back in Oct 2006, we were down at H&M trail system, the guy behind be kept saying he would see a puff of black smoke on the up hills and down hills and even when I would accelerate . I didn’t think much of I at the time but now it starting to concern me.
I have used an extra lager amount of gas this winter over other winters, now I know we had have a bad winter up here as far as snow goes, but still. Two weeks ago or so I reset the odometer and fill the tank, well the other day I added over 2 gals in only 15 miles, now that’s 15 miles of plowing with a bit of fun riding. I did take it out on the roads to play a bit in the snow.
Heading out on vacation this week so I won’t have time to drop it off at my dealership but as soon as we get back she’s going in. There is a bit of history with the yellow 500, back in 2005 one day she won’t start so in she went, well come to find out the valves were over three turns out. The dealership owner came to me and was concerned that there could be a problem and that he would like to see it back once a year ( at no cost, good friend). His fears are that the valves seats are going bad, this would mean a major overhaul of the machine. I was speaking to Robert some time ago and he voiced the same concerns, so after a nice vacation (yes were going someplace warm) I’ll have to come back to a broke, very costly, time for the junk pile 2004 yellow Polaris 500HO.
By the way I have over 3000 miles and 280 hours on this machine.
I got the feeling it won’t be back by June!!!!!
Does anyone have an idea on the cost of something like a tear down and rebuild would be, roughly?
